Ballybrennan Forest is located on the Mull of Kintyre in Argyll, just 5.5 miles south of Campbeltown along the B842 to Southend. The area has a very picturesque mix of fertile farmland, forest, stunning beaches and coastline with the famous Machrihanish Golf Course nearby. Campbeltown is the nearest local town with various amenities, hotels and home of the Springbank Whisky Distillery.
There are regular flights from Glasgow to Machrihanish Airport with Loganair and if driving the Postcode for the neighbouring Ballybrennan Farm is PA28 6PJ.
Ballybrennan was planted between 2012 – 2013 with mainly high yielding Sitka spruce on land that was previously farmed. Since then, it has established well with an excellent stocking level within this well designed forest. Growth rates in the Sitka spruce vary with altitude and soil type, rising from 65 to 235 metres above sea level with fertile brown earth soils lower down merging with a Peaty podzol and gley further up where it meets with the open hill and Peatland.
Native broadleaves have also been established in three distinct locations to improve the diversity and are enclosed within individual deer fenced enclosures. These link with some long established riparian broadleaved woodland running up the main gully and streams, which add a natural element to the forest and excellent wildlife habitat.
Ballybrennan also has the benefit of being situated in a relatively sheltered position with swift access to Campbeltown. Timber is regularly despatched by sea to the various timber processors situated along the west coast and across to Ireland.
