Landfor is an independent specialist in all aspects of commercial forestry, land and amenity woodland sales, marketing appraisals, valuation advice and help in acquiring investment properties.
Set up and run by Patrick Porteous who, prior to setting up independently, acquired significant knowledge and experience working in the management and marketing of commercial forestry, land and rural property for many years.
“I originally started off in forestry in the late eighties, gaining experience in all aspects of practical Forestry, and Arboricultural activities. Including the development of a small water turbine driven sawmill and pallet making business on the west coast of Argyll. This experience led me on to studying both Forestry and Arboriculture in the UK and working in Australia and NZ whilst travelling.
After gaining this experience, I studied forestry and went on to work with two well known chartered land and forest management firms between 1995 and 2007. Based in Inverness, I managed a large commercial forest and native woodland portfolio for mainly private clients and assisted estate owners with the management of a diverse range of private sporting estates in the Highlands. This included advising on a range of land management services from deer management to rural property sales.
In 2007 I joined John Clegg & Co in Edinburgh, where I took on the development of the Scottish forestry agency and became an equity partner handling the sale and acquisition of over £500 Million in commercial forestry property assets, mixed woodlands, planting land and private estates. This also included agency business in Ireland and securing the Forestry Commission for Scotland’s forestry repositioning and disposals sale contract for several years.
Following the sale of John Clegg & Co to Strutt & Parker in 2016 and subsequent sale to BNP Paribas Real Estate Division in 2017, I continued as a Director of the agency business until the end of 2019. With increasing opportunities in the industry I felt the time was right to develop a new streamlined and independent approach to agency business and consultancy”.
